I disagree with the previous answers.
Yes, Paris is at its coldest in January but normally this is not terribly cold. The average low is 2 degrees C (35.6 degrees F) and the average high is 6 degrees C (42.8 degrees F).
In January you will get cheap airfares and good prices on hotels. Places that are normally crowded with tourists will be more easily accessible.
And, there are the January "Soldes" (sales). So, for anyone who is interested in shopping, this is a great time to be in Paris.
Admittedly, you won’t probably want to spend as much time just wandering around on foot to explore the city as you might in warmer weather but Paris has one of the best, if not the best, public transportation systems in the world. You’ll rarely be more than a few blocks from a metro station or a bus stop.
There are a lot of relatively inexpensive and perfectly nice hotels in Paris. In January you might want to check around to find special deals offered.
I usually stay at the Hotel St. Andre des Artes, a very basic hotel in the center of the Left Bank where a double with breakfast included will cost only 86 euros. http://www.123france.com/en/0/hotel-saint-andre-des-arts-paris_486_en/index.html
A bit more upscale is the Hotel Left Bank St. Germain. They often have internet specials. Check them out at: http://www.paris-paris.com/hotel_left-bank_saint-germain.php
Four days is far too little time for a city so rich in tourist sights, museums, and hostory. A week, at least, makes much more sense.
